The story behind…

This original canvas features Euan's iconic and signature 'Bear' character. Bear is in a self reflective mood both metaphorical and figuratively in this painting. Bear exudes a zen like calm regard its self in a mirror. Perhaps taking a moment to get centred and grounded. The title alludes to the feel Euan tries to communicate in all his work. One of self love, self acceptance and peace.

In the artists own words…

"I was reading the book 'Be Here Now' by Ram Dass when I made this painting. I remember a really cool illustration of a man on a bridge looking at his own reflection. A beautiful image, with the caption 'you're standing on a bridge watching yourself go by'. A stunning analogy for life.

It's also inspired by when I visited the famed performance artist Marina Abrambovic's exhibition at the Serpentine some years ago. I was lucky to meet Abrambovic that day and take part in her performance, she handed me a mirror and instructed me to walk through the gallery backwards. Before I began she whispered "reality is an illusion" in my ear. I'll always remember that. A typically mad encounter with one of the biggest artists in the world that sewed the seeds that would grow into this painting many years later…"
